Are you in need of a reliable oboe repairer?
Double reed instruments have always been a specialist niche of the woodwind repair trade, being more complicated and rarer than other woodwind instruments. Many general woodwind repairers do attempt them with varying results, but they really need the attentions of a specialist for anything much more than a minor service.
We started offering a bassoon repair service years ago because there were fewer and fewer specialist repairers around, and those that were still doing it were reaching retirement age. More and more customers were asking us to start offering repairs as a service, rather than just repairing instruments for re-sale as we had been up until that point. Our bassoon repair business has really taken off since then because we are able to offer that specialist knowledge and insight which few others are able to provide.
Oboes, being fellow double reed instruments to bassoons, are in exactly the same position as bassoons with regard to the repair trade. Over the years we have been asked regularly whether we repair oboes. We have now reached the point where the clamour for oboe repairs has reached such a pitch that we can no longer ignore it, so we have decided to finally bite the bullet and offer oboe repair and servicing.
As double reed instruments, oboes and bassoons have much in common when it comes to servicing and repair. Many of the skills and techniques are transferable from one to the other, so it isn’t such a great step for us to undertake. We have serviced and repaired oboes from time to time alongside bassoons over the years but never formally offered it as a service before.
While the skills are the same, more specific knowledge about each instrument is needed in order to provide a top quality service.
One of our repair technicians is already fully trained and skilled in oboe servicing and repair, and was supplying oboe repair services alongside bassoon repairing before he joined us. We have had this specialist knowledge in-house for quite a while, therefore, but until now have not taken the opportunity to fully utilise it.
An oboe repair workshop is more or less identical to a bassoon repair workshop so we already have the equipment necessary for oboe servicing and repair. We have also stocked up on the few parts, pads and tools which differ. Putting our oboe repair skills together with our very well-kitted-out workshop means we can tackle almost any oboe repair job.
We are very excited to offer this new service to the oboe-playing community around the UK and will offer the same quick turnaround and flexibility in approach as we have always done for bassoons. So please get in touch if you would like your oboe serviced or repaired.
