A beautiful early Heckel 4000 series bassoon of outstanding quality. This is a 1900 model with modernised and restored keywork. It is lightweight to hold (much lighter than any modern bassoon) and free but dark in sound.
It was restored in 2004 and little played since. The keywork has largely been upgraded and modernised, re-plated in silver.
This bassoon features:
- An even and silky tone, characteristic of a fine quality early 4000 series Heckel
- Well balanced intonation - it just plays in tune without any extra effort
- Very good projection - very free blowing
- Silver plating is in very good condition
- Heckel stamps legible throughout
- Elegant and striking striped varnish. You are not likely to meet someone else with a bassoon that looks the same
- Good level of keywork including high D key, high E key, alternate Bb-F#-G#, C# and E-F# trill keys
- Finger holes are unlined. We can line them if needed but the instrument is very well in tune as-is
- Heckel crook
- Original case - in need of repair, but well worth keeping
